Could it be that Judas was a martyr?

General Discussion

Hey! Most Christian scriptures depict Judas as an evil person who betrayed Jesus. However, some non-canonical scriptures depict Jesus and Judas as close friends, with Jesus instructing Judas to inform the soldiers of his location. (Gospel of Judas).

The Gospel of Barnabas also claims that Judas was crucified instead of Jesus. However, the Gospel of Barnabas also portrays Judas as the bad guy.

Is it possible that there is some truth in all these stories? Perhaps it went something like this: Jesus knew they were trying to kill him, so God saved him. However, if Jesus had just disappeared, the soldiers would probably have decided to kill all the apostles. Therefore, Judas decided to die instead of Jesus to save the lives of the other apostles.
