I keep getting my hair highlighted and it comes out darker than even before I go in. I am at a loss and don’t know what to do at this point.

A little background - I have gotten my hair highlighter 4 times since April. I originally decided I wanted to go blonde this past spring. I researched for a stylist in the town I work in (larger town) and found a “blonde specialist” who was highly recommended. The first time she did my hair it was sooo dark and my highlights were gray. It was NOTHING comparable to what I was going for. I absolutely hated it. I explained pretty quickly I was unhappy and she offered to fix it. The next day she heavily highlighted it and did not add any toner (she voiced the toner is what messed up my past highlights and made my hair gray). Well that time she completely botched my hair. I had crazy amounts of color in it (dark, white, yellow, orange), slices, unevenness, and it just looked flat out awful and my hair was very compromised.

I reached out to my current hair stylist to correct it shortly after. She did a color correction a few weeks later that May. It looked 100% better, was a lot darker (which she explained since she had to correct it, that would happen) it looked like an “expensive brunette” and I was good with it. She told me now that it’s corrected we could add more blonde next time and we would have a good canvas now. I kept it that way for the past 4 months and the toner faded a lot and it got lighter and lighter with the other highlights coming back through. I decided I was finally ready to get it lightened again so today I went to get it done and it looks brown again! I don’t even know what’s going on. My stylist is great, experienced with blonde, has been doing hair for a very long time.

I am at a loss, I’m not sure what to do. She knows all the trouble I have had with my hair so I am afraid to reach out to tell her I’m not happy with it. But it really does suck to spend so much money on your hair and come out darker than when you went in.

I have washed the toner out 4-5 times now and it still is so dark. What is going on? Is this my hair? I know it takes some sessions to get blonde but I have thin hair and it easily lightens. I am just so confused!!! 😵‍💫
