I don't get it
To be honest, I’m turning 40 this year, and with all the real-life stuff like work and family, I really don’t have that much time to play games anymore.
But I absolutely loved playing through the entire StarCraft 2 series. I loved the excitement of real-time strategy, the amazing world, the graphics, and everything around it. On top of that, I really enjoyed watching tournaments and seeing the pros compete against each other.
And now they’ve announced a new StarCraft… in a completely different genre???
Okay, I get it. SC2 probably doesn’t have enough active players anymore to justify putting a huge amount of resources into further development. And the rumors already suggested that the next StarCraft game might be something different.
But I still had some hope that one day we’d finally get StarCraft 3 — in my beloved RTS genre.
And now it seems pretty clear that we’re getting a first-person shooter instead.
So my question is: Why does it even have to be called StarCraft? Just because it takes place in the StarCraft universe and uses its story, characters and setting?
What’s next? A casino game called World of Warcraft just because it looks like WoW and somehow takes place in the Warcraft universe?
I just don’t get it.
I don’t want a completely different game that happens to have StarCraft written on it.
I want StarCraft.
