AD to Reserve before Shipping

I’ve been having a lot of second thoughts about my Active Duty contract as an 18x. I initially signed because I needed the quickest ship date available, but my family and dependents have since expressed serious concerns about the decision.

I scored a 96 on the ASVAB and originally wanted to enlist in a medical MOS. Unfortunately, none of the medical jobs I was interested in were available during the short window I had to choose a job with my recruiter, so I prioritized shipping quickly instead.

I’m now considering whether the Army Reserve might be a better option.

Does the Army Reserve generally have more availability for medical MOSs than Active Duty, particularly 68-series jobs? And is it possible to get a relatively quick ship date in the Reserve if there’s already a vacancy for the MOS at a unit?

I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone who switched from Active Duty DEP to the Reserve before shipping or who enlisted directly into a Reserve medical MOS.
