After around 18 years I'm done with WoW

Discussion

So I've played WoW since 2008 and had a lot of great experiences in that time.

In my time playing the game around 2018 I had the chance to be a WoW forum MVP (Zinrockin) and have a channel of communication directly to the Blizzard forum community managers. A year before my mom passed away and I was left alone in life Blizzard sent me a gift package from the BlizzCon event in 2018 because I couldn't make it due to needing to care for my mom during her decline health.

I was able to obtain the character name Legend on Kel'Thuzad NA and through a lot of help from several large PvP communities I was able to eventually get 100,000 HKs to get the For the Alliance achievement and become Legend of the Alliance with the "of the Alliance" title that comes from that achievement.

I spent 3 years no-life non-stop farming Zinrohk, Destroyer of Worlds and after collecting tens of thousands of troll fragments I finally obtained it.

I was able to raid with some very friendly and kind people from the guild Indestructible who I attended BlizzCon 2023 with and got some memories I'll look back on forever with a smile and always appreciate.

I'm laying in my hotel room bed waiting for my flight home on Monday writing this after a pretty rough BlizzCon experience of standing from around 3:30AM in the morning until just a little after 10AM to get a good spot in line for my first time attending the Opening Ceremony.

I was at the very front of the line standing in front of the convention center doors and while security at the event made it extremely clear they wanted folks to walk I was shoved pretty bad and while getting my bearings had a large wave of people past me. This kinda defeated the whole purpose of me lining up so early, several waves of people were already inside the hall before they even let the general audience enter so being at the front would have made a difference.

Then after the Opening Ceremony I went to pick up an item I ordered online which had sold out hours after buying it just to be told they don't have it in stock even though I paid for it before it went out of stock. Found all that out after standing in line for around an hour.

Overall, it was just not a great experience and I'm a single 32 year old OTR truck driver who is away from home isolated for months at a time. I want the limited amount of time I can get away from work to have a good ROI. I don't have any family members with me anymore and the few friends I have I want to hold on to by being there for them in the free time I have to keep those relationships alive and well.

What little time I have to play this game outside of my 70 hour work week while on the road I don't want to spend doing this anymore. I'm always playing catch up to my guild mates and friends because I can't make the time to keep up to pace with them with my gear.

I feel like I've accomplished more than I would have ever imagined accomplishing when I started this game back in 2008 and I'm content calling it where things are at and walking away for good.
