Augmentation of ssri with atypical antipsychotics

I know this is common practice and it does seem to help people. My personal experience was being prescribed 5 different antipsychotics over the course of half a year. Ziprasidone helped my OCD but I gained 18 pounds in two weeks. All the others slowed me down and had no benefits. I'm bipolar 2 and spend most of my time in depressive episodes lasting a year or more. I'm rarely hypomanic but I am right now. My question to anyone in a similar situation would be if you could take aps as needed for hypo episodes. They definitely make my depressive episodes worse.
