is book binding easy for a beginner?

would like to get into book binding for stories but im hesitant since im not very confident with the skill of being precise. esp since id like to do hard covers, but i heard these are difficult to do for beginnerd. i dont mind either but id like to first have an idea from those who have personal and firsthand experiences with getting into book binding.
