Letter to my girls
I’m feeling emotional and wanted to share what I wrote for my girls. They are too young but it’s more like a journal entry for myself as a mom.
My dear girls,
There’s something I want you to know. I will always celebrate your wins. I will always smile when you succeed. I will always applaud your efforts.
But the truth is, I don’t really care.
I don’t care how fast you can swim.
I don’t how care how much you can do.
I don’t care how many digits of pi you know.
I don’t care about doing activities five days a week.
I don’t care who compliments you.
Because I already know you’re perfect as you are.
I care…
When you get frustrated, can you keep trying?
When you are sad, can you cry without hating yourself?
When you are angry, can you still be kind to yourself and others?
When you look in the mirror, can you appreciate what you see?
When you are tired, can you let yourself rest?
When someone isn’t a good friend, can you be one to yourself?
When someone uses hurtful words, can you not believe them?
When someone stops loving you, can you believe you are still lovable and remember you are still loved?
When you are hurt or sick, can you have confidence in your body’s ability to heal?
When you are outside, can you enjoy the smell of the trees?
When you are scared and all alone, will you think to say a prayer?
Can you be best friends with your sister and take care of each other?
If your life gets turned upside down, can you still believe it’s just as worthy of living?
And when I am gone, will you remember how much I loved you? And that it was my great privilege to be your mom?
