clingy cat: does it get better?

New to Cats/Just Adopted

hey! this may get downvoted, but i am asking for advice. i just got a 5 month old boy kitten Friday night and he is sweet, but he is incredibly clingy. he follows me everywhere..when I’m washing my face he’s on the sink. when i am showering he’s there. when I’m in bed he’s never still, but constantly moving around me or headbutting me (which is cute, but gets in the way of me being on a device, reading, walking etc). i don’t mind him following me, but i have no personal space. he also play bites which hurts.

this has caused me to be very overwhelmed and have anxiety about now being a cat parent. normally i am a very independent person and i was under the impression cats were more independent as well. i have tried to play with him, but it seems he only wants to play at night. im afraid i wont be able to give him enough attention.

i know it is very soon, but i am starting to regret my decision and have even been considering returning him. is this a normal feeling and will i feel better about him? will he grow to be less clingy as he settles in?

i was also considering getting him a playmate too so they can play with each other, but i am giving it a week to decide anything major.
