I might have a food addiction. How can I quit.
I'm 19(M) and I've been struggling with over eating. I don't know if it's actually an addiction because I'm not a psychologist, but I am always craving food. Idk why, but it's gotten worse the last few months. I don't know how many calories I eat a day, but it's definitely like 4,000+ a day at the minimum, many times it's more. I eat well when I have meals, I get all of my nutrition in, but afterwards I'm still hungry and then end up snacking on a bunch of crap. Oftentimes I don't even realize I'm eating food It's just like a bad habit of going to the kitchen to eat something whenever I have a break in what I'm doing.
For extra context I weigh like 245 and I lift weights constantly because I love the gym. I'm obese, but I'm also pretty muscular and strong, so it's not really a health reason why I'm trying to solve this but to an extent it is, because it's very unhealthy. The main reason I'm having a problem with it is because I feel like crap every time I do it and can't stop myself. I've tried calorie tracker apps plenty of times before, but the problem I have with them is that I meet all my calories and I'm getting plenty of protein, fiber, the right amount of carbs. All the things I should be eating, but then after that I still crave more food and turn to junk food instead of making a 4th or 5th meal of the day. The calorie tracker apps don't stop me from eating more they just show me how much I'm eating, and then eventually I quit because I don't want to log the 3rd donut I've had the last hour when I'm already way over my daily calories.
I'm considering going to the doctor to see if I have a medical issue, because although I've had this problem forever, before it was more of, "I just really love food", but now it's "I can't stop myself from eating" it's only gotten this bad the last few months, and I've also had a recurring sickness that I've never had that started around the same time, so I'm thinking they might be connected, or it's just a coincidence. I've tried basically everything I can think of, and I haven't found anything that helps long term. Anyone who has dealt with this, are there any tips you may have?
