So, the AI trinity (CEOs of Anthropic, OpenAI, and xAI) have suddenly come on the same page about AI?
These three have spent years competing, sniping, and suing each other. So, them lining up in public on the same weekend is way too unusual.
- Genuine concern that AI capabilities are advancing faster than our ability to control them?
- A reaction to recent incidents involving increasingly autonomous AI agents?
- Or is there also a strategic angle where an industry-wide slowdown could change the competitive dynamics of the AI race?
- Or is it because of the rise of open source?
And perhaps the bigger question:
If the people building the most powerful AI systems are themselves saying the race needs to slow down, what do they know or see that the rest of us don't?
