My situation, some questions.

I have read the FAQ. I was bitten by a dog on July 24th, he bit my calf and was very aggressive and the owner was not home. I’m a contractor and was on a job, went through a small gate to get to the front door, and there were no beware of dog signs. As soon as I walked to the front door this dog ran at me and was barking, bit me immediately. It was through my jeans and I did bleed. Animal control also was never able to get ahold of the owner even 10 days later. I received the vaccine the day of the bite and the HRIG, and then completed my remaining shots. I washed the wound only for 1 minute or so, about 30 minutes after it happened. I’ve read that wound washing is an extremely important part, and I basically skipped that step. I did drink alcohol a couple times between my shot days as well. I’ve also read about cases of vaccine failure in people who have received the HRIG and full round of shots, I don’t know.

I understand how rare it is in the US for owned dogs to have rabies, I understand how rare it is for vaccine failure, I just cannot shake this feeling. My calf tingles and aches, though the pain level remains steady and not increasing at all. I just need to know if there is any chance my vaccine could fail. I’m not immunocompromised.
