Buying confidence

How do private schools instil confidence? This is the main benefit I have observed but I don’t have a clue how they do it as I did not attend a private school. I did graduate from LSE with a 2:1 with minimum effort and didn’t feel the privately educated peers stood out intellectually. I did notice the confidence though which has done them very well in the workplace.
