How are you prepping for next year’s El Niño summer?

Serious Answers Only

Having gone through a brutal summer this year, many of us would like to take mitigating steps for next summer. Plus we have lots of time to plan. What are your tips and hacks?

Personally, I’d like to find out more about retractable upper window awnings (I see plenty of relatively cheap options for ground floor but not so many for upper floors). Blackout curtains for the win but I’ve read outdoor sun shielding is far more effective than indoor blinds or curtains and can be a very good add on measure.

FWIW I’ve also ordered a bunch late season onion seeds but I’m afraid I’ve missed the boat on sowing for next year (but hope to do more in early spring next year). Also trying to grow microgreens with grow light in a corner of the house.

May look more into indoor plants too. Like they say, every small measure might not count a lot on its own but collectively in a single home can be a big help.
