Police and emergency services on Nusa Penida, east of Bali, say the woman was found stranded on the southern side of the Kelingking Beach cliff on Saturday morning local time, and fell before rescuers could reach her. The local alert unit coordinator said she is believed to have fallen at around 9am while looking for her own route to the edge of the cliff, and slipped into the ravine. Her body was recovered from the shoreline. A sea evacuation was cancelled because of high tides, so her body was carried up the steep and narrow stairs to the viewing area in an operation that took an hour and a half. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to her family.

Why it matters: Kelingking is the T-Rex shaped headland on every Bali feed, and the drop is 180 metres. Most people who go there never leave the viewing platform, and the cases that end like this almost always involve someone stepping off the marked path for the shot.
