Extended Experience with Water loading ??
I am a professional athlete with about 15-18 fights under my belt. I have done water loading protocols basically every time. My most recent water loading experience I did not have as easy of a time losing the water and it lead me to question if similar to other mechanical stresses on the body, would the body build up a tolerance for long term water loading ?
Similarly ive also heard of fighters sometimes missing weight for weight classes they have competed in for years and then they stop sweating and body doesn't allow them to progress like they normally would.
If an athlete is consistently water loading every 6-8 weeks would the response mechanism adjust ?
My understanding of the process is that you are overloading your water intake to stimulate an Im drowning response to release a chemical that basically purges all the water in your body.
It would make sense that the body gets used to this mechanism or the hormone relase would not be as great but i would like to hear others experiences from bodybuilding, fighting and other sports where making weight is considered a standard.
Also it is interesting to note that there is no further studies on water loading other than the main one everyone goes to ( will try find link )
Would also like to know how much water or how people have changed their water loading protocols over time to adjust if this has been a problem.
Cheers 🍻
