I genuinely don’t understand what changed

I’ve been seeing this guy for about 2 months. Things were great. He planned dates, I met his brother and friends, and he even invited me to Turkey and Thailand with him.

Lately his effort and texting changed, so I finally asked if something was off and whether we were still on the same page. I just didn’t want something casual and wanted to understand where he stood.

He responded by saying, “I don’t think this is going to work like this,” and offered to be friends.

I asked what I did wrong or what changed, and he said, “You haven’t done anything wrong… it’s just not meant to be.”

But that still doesn’t answer my question.

What changed? How do you go from inviting someone on international trips and making them feel like you’re genuinely interested, to suddenly ending it without being able to explain why?

And honestly, asking me to be friends after this feels so tone-deaf. I had feelings for him. I really did expect more from him and from what we were building.

I’m just really hurt and frustrated. I feel blindsided.
