How to support mother with T2?
As the title says, I just learned that my mom was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes along with her existing hypertension. Here’s the kicker - she learned when I did too 🙃. She’s quite stubborn and thinks she’s invincible- hence, her selective hearing at doctor’s appointments. Today she was proven wrong.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? How can I best support her? She’s been inconsistent with HT meds and avoidant with the glucose monitor. She hates getting her skin pricked. I live very far from her and we have varying schedules. So as much as I’d like to “control” and put boundaries in place until she builds a routine- it’s a bit difficult.
It’s hard to not feel complacent but I’ve warned her about this for years and years. I tried to educate her on diet and even just slight exercise, but she laughs it off. I can’t even pin point when she got diagnosed. It’s freaking me out since we’ll be on a family vacation in the Philippines soon… lack of healthy foods out there and I’m sure she’ll struggle.
I’m in shock as much as she is. I pointed it out as I read her recent visit summary and as soon as I pulled up the diagnosis tab, it sunk in and she exited and took herself to bed…
