TCS Digital (Cybersecurity BU mapped + NSE 5) - How to actually get Hyderabad SOC & avoid getting dumped into BBSR support?
Hey guys, need some real advice from current TCS folks, especially anyone in the Cybersecurity BU or familiar with RMG.
Quick Context:
- Got a TCS Digital offer through campus. My interview shortlist explicitly shows my Unit Mapping locked to Cyber Security.
- I also hold an active Fortinet NSE 5 cert.
- Gave my first preference as BBSR 2nd as HYD (really regretting it now)
- College is in Bhubaneswar Almost 90% of freshers from my college get sent straight to TCS BBSR into generic Ninja support/maintenance roles, regardless of what they want.
I really want to land a proper Cybersecurity project (SOC, SIEM, IAM, or Network Security) in Hyderabad so I can build solid experience and switch in 2 years. I'm terrified of getting stuck in BBSR on a generic support bench.
A few questions for seniors:
- Location Survey: When the 8th-sem survey drops on NextStep, if I put Hyderabad as #1 and don't list BBSR at all, do they actually respect it for Digital Cyber hires?
- BU Tag Reality: Does being pre-mapped to Cyber Security actually shield you from regional RMG throwing you into generic testing/support projects?
- Cert Leverage: Does holding an active NSE 5 actually help Hyderabad project leads pick my profile directly over others?
- Post-ILP Move: What's the best way to contact the Cyber Security BU RMG during ILP so I don't get stuck waiting on an unassigned bench?
Appreciate any honest takes, batch experiences, or reality checks!
