Imu time limit

People are mentioning Imu time limit assuming he’s going to be sent back ti the holy land when the clock reaches 0.
But I don’t think that’s how it works nor do I think he dies.

I believe Imu loses himself.
In impel down we saw the jailer beast guards and are told they were awakened zoans who lost their will to the devil fruits.
After egghead oda also explained that zoan awakenings carry a risk of losing your will to the fruit and that Lucci should watch out.

I think this is what’s happening to Imu. Over the 800 years he’s been using his power and now carries a risk of losing his freedom.
The more he over does it the more he chips away at himself losing who he is.

He trades his free will to the devil that gave him this power and the more he uses it the more the devil takes over and the less of himself he becomes.

The more he exerts himself the weaker his will becomes and that is the threat he faces.
