Advice
Ok guys I need advice. I have been at the restaurant I am at now for about 12 years (since Oct 2014). I know absolutely every position in the kitchen even food expediting. I am now titled “Head Chef/Lead cook”. I do everything from appetizers (includes grilling, frying and stove top dishes), wok cooking and stir frying, making all sauces and soups/curries, ingredient prepping (meats/veggies), training new hires and helping and making sure every one is in their positions (includes jumping back and forth to all stations to help). I know absolutely everything about every dish meaning I am the one to ask or go to if there is a problem or question. Also the owners/my bosses can leave the restaurant and have no worries because they trust me and know I got it handled (Just wanted to add that in. It is considered a high end refined Thai fusion restaurant. Many locals consider us a “top spot” and had been featured in many local magazines/papers. I say all this to say this isn’t a cheap low price restaurant. This restaurant is located in High Point, NC. A very modern bustling city full of businesses and many other restaurants and eatery’s. Also known as the “largest furniture market of the world” which is held twice a year here. My question is (and wanting advice on what to do) is my salary fair? Which I obviously don’t agree with hence why I’m mentioning it. I make 17/hr and I’m a “head chef/lead cook” and to the owners/bosses they say I am making “a lot”. I feel I am being taken advantage of. They have said it twice now that we will talk about a raise, which has been almost a year now. Mind you I just now started making 17/hr close to 10 years of being here. Am I wrong that I feel I deserve more?
