How do Americans feel about South Asian immigrants and students in the US?

Hi im a Sri Lankan here .Id like to know a bit about the stance americans have on South Asians. Has the attitude twoards legal immigration changed? Or is it only twoard undocumented immigration? Im planning on going to the US for further studies. Im asking about people and ICE mostly. Im very worried about the wrongful detentions and deportations that occur and i really value my peace of mind and dont wanna live in constant fear. Plan on going for my masters or PHD and plan on probably staying there. Maths and physics field. Please share ur experiences and thoughts . Thanks :)
