Is there a way to make my first time less awkward?

I recently started dating the dude i’ve literally been in love with since high school. He’s absolutely amazing and he’s assured me that it’s not an issue i have no experience but holy crap i’m so nervous. Anyways I know it’s happening soon and dont get me wrong I totally want to, im just scared af. All my friends have told me their stories and it sounds so painful and uncomfortable 😭. Is it like this for everyone? Also like what do I even do?? Just lay there? I’m totally clueless. And it doesn’t help that my bf has already slept with a few girls so i feel like im gonna be awful in comparison.
