[Product Request] Tinea versicolor – allergic reaction to treatment – what alternatives are there?
Hi everyone,
I was recently diagnosed with Tinea versicolor (pityriasis versicolor). I’ve had it since around June, but I only went to the doctor recently because it became much more extensive during my vacation.
My doctor prescribed a medicated shampoo and tablets to treat the fungal infection. Unfortunately, I developed what seems to be an allergic reaction (urticaria/hives) all over my body after using them.
I only used the shampoo and took one tablet once, and I have stopped using them because of the reaction.
I also consulted another dermatologist, but they did not have any other treatment suggestions and said that it was unlikely that the medication had caused an allergic reaction.
Now I’m wondering:
Are there alternative treatments that might be better tolerated?
Since I only used the treatment once, is the fungus likely to still be active?
Can Tinea versicolor continue spreading if treatment is stopped?
How long does it usually take before the spots stop getting larger?
Is there anything I can safely do in the meantime?
Thank you! 🙏
