“We’ll be right back” so call us impatiently

Another busy Saturday night. Whew! I just find it amusing how I put up my sign which clearly says “we will be right back, our front desk staff is away helping another guest thank you for your patience” you know the gist. And without fail, after a few minutes away, I return to the desk with the phone going off the hook and a frustrated looking customer waiting impatiently with their cellphone up to their ear. I am always away for a few minutes, ten min MAX if it’s a maintenance issue, I time it.

And yet I frequently return to the desk with someone calling the empty desk. The phone is going off the hook right in front of them with no one there to answer it and yet they are still calling. A sign that says WE WILL BE RIGHT BACK, and still they are calling. One time, I returned to the guy calling, and he was like “I was worried I thought no one was here” and I curiously said “I left a sign sir?” He was standing right in front of it. I don’t know what goes through their heads, but it always amuses me.
