Onimusha: Way of the Sword or Stellar Blade
About Me:
I love combat systems like Sekiro, Metal Gear Rising, Lies of P, Nier: Automata, Sifu and Hi-Fi Rush. I love combat that’s more about fun and flowing. I like parries, but a good dodge can bring the same feeling.
Popular Game I had issues with:
God of War 2018 - Combat felt like a chore. The close camera and restrictive movement in combat showed it was designed more like a shooter. It wanted to prioritise “cinema” over fun.
The First Berserker: Khazan - An amazing combat system. But exploration and story were dull. Bosses feel like health sponges unless you min-max your gear and combos. I dropped it after beating the 8th story boss. The time and endurance needed to beat the 7th and 8th boss left me feeling “I need to search up how many bosses are left and after beating them. I can quit this game”
Opinions:
Stellar Blade - I played the demo and it felt smooth and fun. But, it wasn’t enough to get why people praise it so much. Does it get better after the demo? I also read a more critical opinion saying that the last 3-4 bosses is when the game gets amazing and people base their full opinion on this.
Onimusha - Mechanically the game feels perfect and is the front runner. But, the game plays itself. I could beat it with button mashing and little to no effort. The enemies barely do anything. But,the Byakue fight was the first time I truly saw the vision for this game, I actually had to engage with the different mechanics. I’m just worried that the fight was a small slice of what the game has to offer. Also, does Carnage have better AI or is it take more damage and enemies have more health?
