Remote disconnect pauses background rendering (3ds Max) and I/O tasks (Robocopy) on Windows 11 host

Hi everyone,
I use HopToDesk to check in on my render node running Windows 11, but I’ve encountered an issue where disconnecting from a remote session suspends or freezes active host-side tasks.
Issue Description:
Whenever I disconnect or close the HopToDesk viewer window, processes on the host machine immediately stall. Specifically:
3ds Max: Active rendering halts right at the moment the remote session drops, remaining completely frozen until I reconnect via HopToDesk, at which point it resumes.
Robocopy / CLI Operations: Large file transfers run in the background pause execution upon disconnect and only pick back up once a new session is established.
This behaves as though the Windows desktop session or thread execution is throttled, suspended, or put into an idle/lock state when HopToDesk terminates the display stream.
Environment & Setup:
Host OS: Windows 11
Remote Access: HopToDesk (Installed mode / Unattended Access)
Affected Applications: Autodesk 3ds Max (rendering), Command Prompt / PowerShell (Robocopy transfers)
Host Hardware: Headless workstation / Render node
Expected Behavior:
Disconnecting the remote viewer should only terminate the display capture and audio stream. All CPU, GPU, and disk I/O operations (such as 3ds Max renders and background terminal jobs) should continue running uninterrupted on the host.
Questions:

  1. Does HopToDesk trigger a session lock, virtual display detachment, or power-state change upon client disconnection that causes Windows 11 to suspend interactive processes?
  2. Is there a known setting, registry flag, or background service configuration in HopToDesk (or Windows 11 session handling) to prevent the host from throttling/pausing active operations on disconnect?
Any advice or workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
