Simple pastry filling ideas

Hi! I am pretty much a beginner baker. Please help with a simple tart I’m wanting to make today, for some friends. I have made a sweet pastry crust and my idea was to fill it with crème pâtissière and then top it was some fruit. I have not made crème patisserie before, but I was going to use the recipe from Sally’s Baking. My question is, will this taste a bit boring? Should I add a flavour to the pastry cream, maybe cinnamon or lemon?
