Should I find a new job?
I am 16, this is my first job. I am working at Sierra which is part of the company that owns Tj maxx. I have been working here since late July and am already having some red flags appear. When I started working the store wasn’t even open yet, it was just the bones of a store. Everything was so good at the start I felt like I fit in with my co workers, my manager was kind, and I’m going to be honest I was one of her favorites. But everything changed once we opened, it’s like a flip switched and my managers whole personality changed. Since I am 16 and still in highschool I do have some hours I cannot work due to school, and my extracurricular activities. I do online so I usually can work 7am - 10pm every day. I also participate in an equestrian team, which causes starting in October a schedule change, my manager has a huge issue with this and said “I hired you for your availability.” So I haven’t brought it up yet. I have had some issues and she has had to talk to me about them, to sum it up, I don’t get social queues very easy so I do sometimes mess up, sometimes I don’t think before I speak, or think of how things could be taken. This is something I’m working on at home and at work. Another issue is one of the coordinators (basically a manager) treats me more like a kid than a co worker, which is extremely frustrating because I got a job to escape always being around my parents. I brought this up to my manager and she said “She is a coordinator, I treat her like a manager, she respects you if you respect her.” I have never done anything to disrespect anyone.
Another thing is, I was very open about the fact I have adhd and sometimes I forget to take my medication for it. This one day I forgot to take it and was getting very distracted, but she didn’t correct me that day, I didn’t even realize I was getting distracted. But the next time I came in she sat me down and was like “so what happened Sunday, why didn’t this get done?” I explained to her I forgot to take my meds so I was a little extra distracted, but it wouldn’t happen again and I’d try my best. She then sat me down AGAIN that day and told me that the same coordinator I talked about previously told her that I was “talking back” when told to do something and that I said “check the cameras” when told I didn’t do something that I had. She took me laughing and saying “I’m not even joking check the cameras” in a joking tone as a serious, “check the cameras.” Then proceeded to talk to the manager about it.
During this conversation with my manager she proceeded to ask me “why are you blankly staring, do you not care what I’m saying?” At this point I had been in the office 5 times for stuff that shouldn’t of been an issue, or been handled in a different manner then they were so I was just numb to it at this point. In the next couple weeks she has cut my hours significantly, from 20-30 hours a week to 10. I am working 5 days for the next 2 weeks, after being told I’d be working 20-40.
Should I talk to her about it, just ignore it, or quit?
