Maybe I’m dumb

I just finished Widows Bay and really enjoyed it, but I feel like the ending didn’t resolve a lot and left me with more questions. Obviously, they might be waiting until future seasons to fully answer things.

They played on a lot of horror tropes so I half expected to get to the end and Tom had just been crazy the whole time like a Shutter Island situation. But anyway, here are my questions:

Why the hag?
Why the clown?
Why the boogeyman?
Where did they come from?
What is their purpose?
Why did the priest kill himself and burn his instructions?

The main “antagonist” is the island. It’s alive. Needs to be fed because it’s somehow cursed. I got that. The other focuses just seemed to be out of place and distracting from the main storyline.

Or maybe I’m dumb and missed how it all ties in together.
