Difficult customer. I need to vent 😭

Was I wrong for canceling an Etsy order because the buyer wouldn’t confirm her complete address?

I’ve been an Etsy seller for several years. I buy shipping labels outside of Etsy, so I have to enter every address manually.

Recently, a buyer provided an address with several numbers before the street name and a different apartment number on a separate line. It looked like the address contained two apartment numbers, and I couldn’t find the address as written on Google.

I asked which apartment number was correct. She replied with only one word: ā€œ9009ā€. That was her entire response. I still didn’t know whether I should remove the other numbers in front of the street or keep them, so I asked her to explain and confirm her complete address exactly as it should appear on the label.

She didn’t respond. I followed up again, extended the processing time, and waited approximately a week. Because I couldn’t safely create the shipping label, I canceled the order and issued a full refund.

She responded immediately after the cancellation and said she had already given me her apartment number. I explained politely that she hadn’t answered my follow up questions about the other numbers. She became defensive and offensive, starting to blame me saying why I canceled her order lol. Then I told her way and she told me that she doesn’t want to argue with me, because basically she is right and I should never contact her again …

It really hurt because she made me feel as though the situation was my fault. I had contacted her several times, waited for days, and tried to prevent her package from being sent to the wrong address. I didn’t feel comfortable guessing or changing part of her address without confirmation. And by the way I’ve already made her order spending my materials on that

I mostly wanted to vent about this. Was I wrong to cancel the order? 🄲
