Fake “BRICS Summit explosion” video is circulating today: the footage is old

A video is being circulated on social media claiming that an explosion happened in New Delhi shortly before the 2026 BRICS Summit concluded, with posts claiming that 8 people were killed.

That claim is false.

India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check has debunked the claim, stating that the video being circulated is old and unrelated to the BRICS Summit. The footage actually relates to an earlier explosion in Delhi, not an incident during the BRICS meeting.

The important point here isn't whether you support India, Pakistan, BRICS, or anyone else.

It's simply this:

An old video was recycled and presented as breaking news.

This is exactly how social-media propaganda works — take genuine footage from a previous incident, remove its original context, attach it to a current geopolitical event, and add a dramatic casualty claim.

Before sharing videos like this, check:

  • When was the footage originally recorded?
  • Where did it first appear?
  • Is there independent reporting?
  • Has the location/date been verified?
  • Are casualty figures confirmed by credible sources?

The PIB clarification is also referenced in the report and says the circulated video is old and unrelated to the BRICS Summit.

Don't let recycled footage become “breaking news.”
