How long did you spot/bleed during your MMC?

Hello all,

unfortunately, a scan last week (8w5d) showed fetus only measuring at 6w3d, with no heartbeat. I had gone in for the early scan because at 7w2d I had started to spot some dark old blood.

Because my dates are very firm, the scan showed no heartbeat and fetus measuring way behind, and I also have lost my only symptom (sore boobs) and the spotting has picked up to red blood and picked up in amount (not as heavy as a period yet but heavy enough that I’m wearing pad or liner everyday otherwise laundry would just be a mess), I am very confident in the MMC. Our medical system however needs to confirm fetus is at least 7mm without a heartbeat to provide me options for assisted miscarriage, or needs to confirm a second scan 2 weeks later showing no growth. That scan is now scheduled for September 23rd, and I’m to notify them if I pass it naturally before then.

my question is, my spotting started just over 2 weeks ago, now, its what I’d consider a least a light period bleed almost everyday of fresh looking blood, so it’s picked up quite a bit from just old brown spotting, and still I haven’t passed anything? I’m worried about infection. I know people have said it can take weeks, but usually the accounts I’ve read of taking weeks is that the body doesnt start to bleed until a few weeks later but once the bleed starts it all ramps up and passes within a few days. For me the bleed has technically started with the spotting over 2 weeks ago, and still nothing passed. I think I’ve spotted two very tiny small clots so far on the pad, nothing out of the ordinary in terms of what you’d see during a period.

I experience period like light cramping a few times this week as well and I hope that means it’s ramping up but the cramps just subside and nothing happens.

so far I do not have any symptoms of infection, except I’m a bit confused about the smelly discharge one as all of my discharge is blood at this point, so it doesn’t smell great. A few days ago it smelled very similar to period blood but as of yesterday and today I tried to check the smell again and I feel like the smell is a different type of gross, not necessarily what I’m used to smelling for period. So I don’t know what that means. No pain, no fever or chills, I think I’m okay so far but this entire ordeal has just made me so paranoid…physically I feel fine but I’m just so worried I’ll end up missing some sort of critical symptom and die.

so long story short, my question is, anyone else experiencing spotting turn to bleeding for 2 weeks or more before passing naturally? Looking for any reassurance xx
