Building with controller vs M&KB

PC player. For most of the game, M&KB works just fine. But for building, the mouse feels so twitchy and imprecise. Between that, build camera angles and that silly rotation thing that wall-mounted objects do, I struggle with clean placement. Does anyone have a relative comparison on building with controller (X-box) vs M&KB? I'm thinking I can get a refurb x-box controller cheap.
