DU Elections - an explanation?

I am aspiring to join DU next year (ideally Hindu College, but bhagwan knows how I'll do in CUET), mainly for the sake of UPSC preparation. I've noticed that the DU elections are something that comes up in many posts, either passively or actively in this sub.

I wanna properly understand how exactly DU college politics works, the whole shebang:-

1. the process of the elections,
2. the bodies/posts open to such elections,
3. the main parties/blocs,
4. the power/jurisdiction of the posts held by the electees,
5. and what exactly is the objective/end goal of the election (ie how it matters to ordinary students)

I understand that each of these might be different in different colleges, in both NC and SC. Can yall please explain?
