Kenan Thompson came into my coffee shop and accidentally sold me on Autotrader
I work at a coffee shop, so I overhear approximately 400 conversations a day ranging from “I’m launching a crypto app” to “my situationship is spiritually avoiding me.” So it felt like a normal shift until I noticed this woman wearing an honestly aggressive amount of orange buying a car online on Autotrader on her laptop. Orange is an important detail, more on that later. Then suddenly Kenan Thompson, yes, the actual Kenan Thompson, starts casually walking the entire coffee shop through the whole process.
Now, I’ve heard people confidently explain memecoins, raw milk, and “luxury apocalypse bunkers,” so naturally I was skeptical. Kenan was all in though, like the captain of the Autotrader cheerleading squad. So I asked the question everyone was thinking: “If you buy online, can you still test drive it?
Apparently yes. Really. Kenan let us all know you can start online, test drive at your local dealership, then finish later online without starting from scratch. Like what?
At this point the whole coffee shop was invested. A woman at the condiment station got so locked into the conversation that while asking if the car could actually be delivered, she poured what I can only assume was half gallon of oat milk directly into her coffee. No reaction. Just maintained eye contact the whole time. Kenan, unfazed, explained that you can either have the car delivered OR you can pick it up from a local dealership.
Really.
This fever dream of a day kept going. As if she’d manifested it herself, the woman’s car arrived. She immediately sprang out of her chair to grab the keys. That’s when Kenan realized her orange car wasn’t a random choice, she was clearly very committed to the orange aesthetic.
Slay orange wearing lady. Slay.
Anyway.
I started my shift making lattes and ended it researching SUVs on Autotrader.
So yeah. I get it now.
Brb: Buying a car online on Autotrader. Really.
