Middle of the road take on the way the game looks

Does the remake look gross? in places.
Will I get used to it? Probably.

It absolutely looks like the professional version of that one dude who'd been making that OoT remake for like 10 years, but that's not necessarily the worst thing that could have happened.

I feel like they didn't manage to capture the feel of OoT. The colors are washed out a bit, and the character designs all just don't really feel right.

I've seen people make comparisons to the history of people reacting to the new art styles for each game, but I think this one's a bit different. People keep comparing to the N64 version, but I think the 3DS remake is the better one to compare to, and I think it wins out in a lot of ways. Ocarina of Time already had an established look, and they even had a remake with a nearly perfect implementation of the character designs on the 3DS. Unfortunately, it's trapped on the 3DS where the resolution is pretty bad unless you use an emulator of course.

I'm not saying they should have just ripped those models, but I feel like working from that template would have been a better idea than this huge departure. Instead it looks like they started from scratch, but ended up in a weird middle of the road place.

I do wonder if this was not OoT, and I was looking at a new Zelda game. Would I find it as strange looking?

The lighting I think needed a little big more time in the oven. Overall I'll probably play it one day assuming there's any actual difference in the level designs or any actual new gameplay features other than QoL additions.
