Question about new offer while waiting on your assigned route

Sometimes I get those pop-ups asking if I want a longer route for more money. I've accepted a few times and it was awful, but when I declined, the route was just as bad anyway, which makes me feel like I should’ve just taken the extra pay. How has everyone else's experience been with those?
