L5 Area Manager looking to transfer out of Ops

I’m an external L5 Area Manager for 1.5years now and would like to internally transfer into a role that’s more closely related to my Industrial Engineering background.
Besides requesting informationals, what can I do to make myself a stronger candidate for internal roles?
Also, how much does my performance in my current AM role matter? Do hiring managers mainly look at current performance or do previous experience and education carry significant weight as well?

I’d appreciate any advice, especially from anyone who has successfully transitioned out of Ops or hired someone from Ops .
