Citric acid won’t rinse out
Hi laundryheads I’m hoping you can help me out here. So to begin with I’m one of those people who are quite sensitive to laundry detergents and chemicals in general. It’s not full blown multiple chemical sensitivity but I have respiratory symptoms (not skin) when there is too much detergent residue remaining in my washed clothes.
In order to solve this issue I learned about citric acid rinsing. Well, now I’m reacting to the citric acid remnants. Imagine the feeling of citric acid sour but through my mouth, nose, and throat. It stubbornly stays in the fabric seemingly no matter how many rinses I do.
It also seems to remain in the washing machine and only resolves after several non citric acid washes and self clean cycles.
So does anybody have suggestions for how to address this issue? I’ve experimented with neutralizing the acid, with different cycles and ratios of water/detergent and other variables.
I would simply rinse many times over but like I said it seems to stay in the washing machine as well as the clothes.
Any help is appreciated.
