Where do we go from here…
My partner and I (both F mid twenties) have been dating for just about 6 years. She’s been my best friend for longer. The past year or so we found each other more distant. We live together with a few roommates. It’s a lovely place and we all have plenty of room definitely not too cramped. I’ve found myself driving myself crazy over not feeling like a girlfriend. I don’t find myself feeling desired. She doesn’t really like physical affection or intimacy. Which I knew she had a lower libido than me. We’ve communicated about our differences in affection, love languages and what one another needs physically so many times. And I’m happy to do so because I feel like it’s so important to talk to your partner about what you like and what you don’t, what feels good what doesn’t, what you want, etc. you get it. What I’m trying to say is our communication and connection overall has been really great we have been nothing but understanding of each other and we always find a way to talk through an issue or disagreement. Recently we had a convo about how she doesn’t like any affection. I don’t know how to feel about this. I feel sort of blind sided. I still need to have like a full in depth conversation about how long this has been a feeling and like exactly when. It makes me feel like she’s been compensating for me and that makes me sad.
We were sitting on the couch together the other just chilling and she was doing something on her laptop. I was resting my head on her back / shoulder and rubbing her back and leg. Not crazy but just gently while I was laying. She didn’t saying anything to me but later she said that made her feel uneasy and uncomfortable. I’m confused because why wouldn’t you tell me in the moment and why does that make you feel that way?? We’ve been together for almost 6 years so it’s odd to me that telling me to move or stop would be hard for her. This what leads me to maybe this is a much bigger issue than she is willing to admit. My biggest fear is that she doesn’t feeling anything physically for me but enjoys my company not that it’s a bad thing but I certainly have had many more feelings 🥹. It’s just so vulnerable and scary to navigate. I don’t know how to get her to be honest and (tell me exactly what she is feeling and when and for how long this has been happening) also not hurt her. She’s told me multiple times before that it makes her feel broken… which leads me to believe that she wants to feel differently towards me but she can’t? Or this something that a relationship can’t work through…? What do I say when I have a sit down with her? I don’t even know where to start because I really don’t want her to feel ashamed if this is just who she is but we also like need to talk about it.
All advice welcome just please be nice 🙏🏼
