If You’ve Been “Planning” Your Poop Scooping Business for 3 Months, You’re Procrastinating
Hot take: If you’ve been “planning” your pet waste removal business for 3 months and still haven’t gotten your first customer, you’re not planning anymore.
You’re procrastinating.
I see people obsess over shit that absolutely does not matter when you have ZERO customers.
“What CRM should I use?”
“Should I charge $19 or $22?”
“Is this logo good enough?”
“Should I form an LLC first?”
“What color should my website be?”
“Should I offer biweekly?”
“How big should my service area be?”
Brother, you have no customers.
None of that is your biggest problem.
Your biggest problem is that you’re scared to put something into the world before it’s perfect.
And I get it. Research feels productive. Building spreadsheets feels productive. Tweaking your website feels productive.
But sometimes “research” is just fear wearing a business casual shirt.
When we started Scoopy Doo, we didn’t have everything figured out. Hell, we STILL change things.
Pricing has changed.
Processes have changed.
Marketing has changed.
Software has changed.
Our service area has changed.
You know what taught me what actually needed to change?
CUSTOMERS.
Not another YouTube video. Not another Facebook group. Not another spreadsheet.
Customers.
I’d rather see somebody start with a mediocre logo, a basic website, imperfect pricing, and 10 paying customers than spend six months building the “perfect” poop scooping company that doesn’t actually scoop any poop.
Here’s another unpopular opinion:
You probably don’t need another course either.
You need to knock on doors.
Put out signs.
Run an ad.
Post in local groups.
Ask for referrals.
Talk to apartment complexes.
Get your Google Business Profile set up.
And ASK PEOPLE FOR MONEY.
Business gets a whole lot less theoretical the first time somebody hands you a credit card.
Get customer #1.
Then #10.
Then #50.
You’ll solve problems as they actually appear instead of spending six months solving imaginary ones.
Start ugly.
Fix shit as you go.
Because the guy with the shitty logo and 50 customers is absolutely kicking the ass of the guy with the perfect business plan and zero.
Change my mind.
