JJS is one of if not the most innovative battleground game ever as every character has different archetype's, weaknesses, and strengths. It's been getting better and better ever since they added damage based evasive-bars BUT even with all of those innovations there's still a pretty significant problem that makes the game a little unfun to play.

The Combat System

It's quite literally the exact same as every other battleground game with the exception of backdashes not consuming your chase cooldown, but other than that it is just as shallow as old grandpa TSB. Like 90% of characters rely on the funky side dash M1 "tech" that is really hard to react to unless you live next to the server room , and it's either way too strong or way too weak making it really sucky that characters like Yuji and Hakari are basically cucks without it.

Front Dashes are even worse because they have the stupidest hitboxes of all time (mostly to compensate with latency) and that combined with the block hitbox makes it so that sometimes a lock-on player for example can hit you with a RAW, NEUTRAL frontdash and still have it go through your block because they basically smash into your block hitbox like a no-clip and hit your back.

And M1 trading is boring too, the game's meant to feel like an actual fight not a ring-around-the-rosie back and forth that is also MOSTLY dependant on what character your playing as for some godforsaken reason some characters have different M1 windups and no-endlag on block M1's?

I'm not asking for a complete rework as that would be stupid cause everyone (including me), but it definetly needs some QoL to make both fun for everyone and engaging, like M1 clashes, dash clashes, yadada, it needs more depth and some tuning so that the game's meta isn't so black and white between neutral giants and "I side dash therefore I M1" type characters.

(obviously none of this will ever happen but I wanted to talk abt it)

Hot Take: JJS's potential is hindered by it's cookie cutter combat system
