Playa del Carmen Wedding: Paradisus Playa del Carmen vs The Fives Beach Hotel & Residences

We're planning our wedding for late April/early May 2028 in the Riviera Maya, expecting around 30-40 guests with a pretty wide range of budgets, so keeping guest costs down is a top priority for us. Right now we're down to two resorts, Paradisus Playa del Carmen and The Fives Beach Hotel & Residences, but we're having a really hard time deciding.

They seem to be similarly priced per night, so that’s not really an issue. The reason we feel stuck is because while Paradisus feels like the more high-end/polished hotel overall, is more highly rated, and their family program/kids' area seems better, the Fives' wedding venues so much nicer imo - the beachfront gazebo and the skydeck gazebo in particular are just absolutely gorgeous.

We're planning to visit the area in April 2027 and stay a few nights at whichever resort we lean toward, to see what it's actually like in person. If we love it, we'll book it for the wedding that same trip. So we want to make sure we're picking the right one to visit, since we probably won't have time to properly check out both.

Has anyone gotten married at or stayed at either of these? Which would you pick given the trade-off, better overall hotel vs. better wedding venues? And is there anything about either place you wish you'd known before booking?
