First Time Conducting an IEP Meeting for an Inclusion Student
Hi! I am a new SPED teacher, and in less than a month after being hired, I was already challenged with conducting an IEP meeting. It was actually a nice experience, and I learned a lot.
This time, however, I have another meeting for students in inclusion. The thing is, I don't really know how to start or what the flow should be because, unlike the IEP meetings I had with my SNED students, I don't know when to let the class adviser speak or when to ask the parents for their input. I honestly don't have much idea about how to conduct this type of meeting.
The previous SPED teacher is now a SPED Consultant, so we can book her if we have questions however, it may depends on her availability so I am just doing things on my own for now.
Please help me. Am I doing this right?
My current plan is:
First, greetings, agenda, and acknowledging the presence of the attendees.
Second, I will ask if there is an updated neurodevelopmental report or if the student is still attending therapies.
After that, we'll proceed to the student's strengths, needs, and then the annual goal. However, the annual goals are actually general. The previous SPED coordinator told us to keep them generic since we cannot directly track the students' progress if we make the goals too specific to a subject or domain.
I have watched some videos about IEP meetings, but I'm still confused about how to conduct mine.
