THIRDAGEDDON 2027 – A full weekend of 3rd Edition 40K
This is exactly the sort of thing I love finding because it shows that 3rd Edition isn't just something people remember fondly.
People are still actively playing it.
Tabletop Republic in High Wycombe is organising THIRDAGEDDON 2027, a two-day Warhammer 40,000 3rd Edition narrative event on 13–14 March 2027.
The format is five games at 1,250 points, using the original 3rd Edition Big Black Book rules.
Armies can be drawn from the BBB lists or from official GW army lists published during 3rd Edition.
They're also being pretty sensible about miniatures. Period-correct models and Firstborn armies are encouraged, but modern miniatures can be used as proxies for appropriate 3rd Ed units.
So you don't necessarily need to spend six months hunting eBay before you can join in.
One detail I particularly like is that they're actually using some of the campaign material from the original rulebook.
After each game, a player awards one unit a Battle Honour using the system on page 163 of the 3rd Edition rulebook.
That Battle Honour then stays with the unit for the rest of the weekend.
The games contribute towards three broad narrative alliances — Imperial, Chaos and Unaligned — with the results helping determine the outcome of the campaign.
There's also possibly the most appropriately 3rd Edition painting category imaginable:
BEST PAINT JOB RESCUE
The idea is to take a battered old eBay, car-boot or garage-find miniature, restore it, and bring a photograph showing what it looked like beforehand.
Twenty-five-year-old armies literally being dragged out of boxes and returned to the tabletop.
And Thirdageddon isn't completely isolated either.
Shrewsbury Wargames Society has also been running 3rd Edition games and has a 3rd Edition tournament scheduled for 20 September 2026.
This is exactly what I'd like this subreddit to highlight more often.
Not:
"Does anyone remember 3rd Edition?"
But:
"WE'RE PLAYING 3RD EDITION. BRING AN ARMY."
Would anyone here travel for a proper 3rd Edition weekend like this?
And if you did, what army would you bring?
