I have had Toasted Skin Syndrome twice in my life
Due to chronic pain from fibromyalgia I have been using heating pads for a long time. I had this condition in the past (NOTHING like what I have going on now). Bad part is when it is usually the low back pain, I did not/could not see the damage I was causing until it was REALLY bad. The first episode went away with time.
Due to having major foot surgery and being non-weight bearing for 2 months, I was using the heating pad around the clock. BAD idea.
When I finally saw what I had done to myself, I kind of flipped out. But I wanted to share a couple of thoughts.
First, try to find another kind of pain management. The patches with lidocaine that can be worn for several hours really do help for me. I use them more now.
Two, you have to stop the heat to the damaged skin or you will be fighting a losing battle.
Something I have been doing for the past few weeks is: bought two bottles of Vaseline Deep Moisture CREAM (not lotion). Due to it having Vaseline in it, it helps with the moisture barrier.
I have one tube in my night stand/bathroom to use at home.
When I am at work, I have a tube in the bathroom. Every time I have to drop the pants to urinate I put more cream on at that time. So, I have re-applying it multiple times a day.
After 3+ weeks I have seen a significant lightening of the toasted skin.
Just my 2 cents worth.
