In-home daycare: how demanding is a 6mo? Is $100 more/wk worth it?
We have a 7wk old and are planning to start him in an in-home daycare around 6mo. We’re torn between two options below and wondering how much to consider for him at that age. Of course we want to give him the best, so we wonder how much he’ll need and if a basic but safe daycare is sufficient at this age, or if the nicer environment/care is worth paying more for
Option 1: $320/week
- 5 min away
- 1 caregiver for 4–5 kids; assistant comes in when she has 5
- Townhouse basement; clean but a little dark and small, and pretty bare-bones
- Good reviews, no significant violations
- food after 1 years old
Option 2: $410/week
- 4 min away
- 3 caregivers for 12 kids
- Bright, clean, spacious first floor of a house
- Great program for older toddlers (potty training, reading/writing, Montessori, etc.), but we’re unsure how much of that matters for our son
- They currently have a 6-month-old, so we’ll ask about their baby schedule/care
- Good reviews and many families stay until kindergarten
- food served at 6m if it’s applicable
We really liked Option 2, and may go with her… but is the extra $90/wk worth it, or would you save the money and go with Option 1?
Let me know what you think and any parents of 6mo old, what you’d prioritize in a daycare. Thanks for the help!!
