Coppola and Scorsese
Megalopolis and Killers of the Flower Moon are examples of elderly legends being surrounded by a spineless “yes” crowd. The first is incoherent drivel (stealing that one from Seinfeld), while the second includes an unnecessary 90 minutes of pretentious babble.
Everyone around them seems afraid to say, “This doesn’t work,” or “You need to cut this.” At some point, admiration becomes a liability. When nobody is willing to push back, even brilliant filmmakers can mistake indulgence for genius.
