Where do you guys recycle your cans?

I'm new in town, moved here from Oklahoma. Being charged a few cents per metal can in certain stores is new to me! I've been collecting my cans to bring back to the store for the 10¢ per can, but nowhere seems like a good place. The stop and shop return area is a mess, and the machine at local walmarts doesn't seem to work. Anyone have any suggestions?
